Requesting App Access via Microsoft Teams (Teams Agent)

Overview

Torii's Teams Agent is an AI-powered assistant that lets employees discover and request app access directly from Microsoft Teams — no need to open a separate tool or submit a ticket. Using natural language, employees can ask for access to an app, check on a pending request, or get answers about apps in your company's catalog. The agent interprets the request with AI, confirms the details with the employee, and creates or updates the access request in Torii automatically.

What employees can do

  • Request access to a catalog app — ask for access to an app that already exists in the catalog
  • Request a new app — submit a request for an app that isn't in the catalog yet
  • Check request status — ask the agent for an update on a pending request
  • Ask questions about catalog apps — find out who owns an app, read its description, or see which apps they're already using

How an access request works

  1. An employee messages the Torii agent in Teams, e.g. "I need access to Figma."
  2. The agent uses AI to understand the request and checks the App Catalog for a match.
  3. If the app exists, the agent confirms details (like the license type or business justification, if required) and submits the request in Torii.
  4. If the app isn't in the catalog, the agent logs it as a new app request for the Torii admin team to review.
  5. The employee can message the agent anytime to check the status of a request.
  6. Approvals and provisioning continue to follow your organization's configured access request policy in Torii.

Prerequisites

  • A Teams administrator (Global Admin or Teams Admin) is needed to install the agent, since installation currently requires uploading the app package for your organization
  • Custom app uploads must be permitted for your tenant (this is on by default for most organizations; see Microsoft's documentation on custom app policies if uploads are blocked)

How to install

A MS Teams admin installs it by uploading the Torii app package to your organization's app catalog. Once Torii's app is published to the Microsoft Teams Store, this manual step will no longer be needed.

  1. Download the Torii Teams Agent app package: Torii-access-request-agent.zip
  2. As a Teams admin, sign in to the Microsoft Teams admin center.
  3. Go to Teams apps → Manage apps.
  4. Select Upload new app (or Actions → Upload new app, depending on your admin center layout).
  5. Upload the Torii-access-request-agent.zip file you downloaded in step 1.
  6. The app is added to your organization's app catalog and becomes available to users after a few hours, under the Built for your org section of the Teams app store.

Once uploaded, no further per-user setup is required — employees can find and start a conversation with the Torii agent directly in Teams.

If your organization restricts who can interact with custom apps, make sure the relevant org-wide app setting or app permission policy allows employees to use the Torii agent.

How it works for employees

Once installed, employees can open a chat with the Torii bot in Teams (found under Built for your org in the Teams app store, or via search) and type a request in plain language — for example, "I need access to Airtable." The agent will guide them through the request or answer their question directly.

About AI-generated responses

The Teams Agent uses AI to interpret messages and generate replies. While it's designed to be accurate, AI-generated responses may occasionally be incomplete or incorrect. Employees should verify important details — such as request status or approval decisions — directly in Torii's App Catalog.
