Why Blocking Sites Improves IT and Security Posture

Blocking certain websites helps protect your organization from security threats and ensures compliance with company policies. By limiting access to risky or non-work-related sites, IT teams can reduce exposure to malware, phishing, and data leaks. It also prevents users from accidentally sharing sensitive information on unapproved platforms.

In addition, enforcing site restrictions helps maintain consistent application use across the company. This supports data governance, ensures employees use approved tools, and simplifies auditing and monitoring. Overall, controlled web access strengthens the organization’s security posture while aligning with compliance and acceptable-use policies.

Blocking sites using the Torii Browser Extension

The Torii Browser Extension helps organizations enforce safe browsing and compliance by blocking access to specific sites. When a user visits a site that is restricted by company policy, the extension performs a soft block.

A soft block means the site is not immediately locked or made inaccessible. Instead, the user sees a clear warning message explaining that the site is restricted based on company policies. The user can then choose to dismiss the warning and continue if the visit is legitimate or required for work.

This approach balances security and flexibility. It alerts users to potential policy violations or risky sites while allowing exceptions when appropriate, helping organizations maintain control without disrupting productivity.

The end-user experience

When a user navigates to a blocked site, the following warning appears:

The user is encouraged to switch to an approved alternative site in line with company policy or to dismiss the warning for the current session.

As an administrator, you can configure if to provide a "Dismiss" option or not.
